What is a Preprint?

A preprint is a publication before the peer-review process. The document is not yet accepted by a publisher.

What is a Postprint?

A postprint is an accepted manuscript after the successful peer-review process. It is the version that the author wrote last and that was accepted for publication by the publisher. Characteristics of the manuscript:

• is styled by the author (ideally in PDF, complete text and figures)
• includes any revisions (that were made during the review process)
• its scientific content is identical with the published version
• lacks the publisher's layout and logos

What is a Published PDF?

A published PDF is the article as published with publisher's layout and pagination.

Does the ETH-Bibliothek Support Hybrid Journals?

ETH Zurich does not support hybrid journals for financial reasons. As publishers do not always grant a decrease of the licence fees proportional to the Open Access fees, in total higher costs are assumed.
