Science Europe publishes declaration of principles on Open Access
Science Europe, an umbrella organisation of the most important research and funding organisations in Europe, has published a declaration of principles entitled Principles for the Transition to Open Access to Research Publications.
For the first time, it lays down the joint guidelines that should govern the transition to an open-access-based publication model. The funding organisations, including the Swiss National Science Foundation, endorse both publications in open-access journals and second publications on document servers. However, they are explicitly against supporting so-called hybrid publication models.
Open Access publishing via the ETH E-Collection
The ETH E-Collection is available to all members of ETH Zurich as an alternative publication platform outside of traditional publishing. It allows free and unlimited web access to research and teaching-related materials. The ETH E-Collection is the instrument of ETH Zurich to actively implement the "Green Road" to Open Access.
Why Publishing in the ETH E-Collection?
- straightforward publication of research findings for the authors
- free and comprehensive distribution of the documents
- worldwide, time-independent access to the academic publications of ETH Zurich
- indexing and verification of the documents in the catalogue of the ETH Bibliothek according to international standards
- daily updated access statistics, for example on the 50 most used documents (top 50)
- guaranteed long-term availability of the publications
- possibility to permanently collect conference proceedings, series, etc. at a fixed internet address
What is Suitable to be Published Open Access?
The following document types are especially suitable to be published in the institutional repository of the ETH Zurich:
- postprints
- doctoral and habilitation theses
- reports
- educational materials
- series
- conference proceedings
Please note that legal questions may have to be clarified.
How can I publish Open Access at the ETH E-Collection
- go to the ETH E-Collection website www.e-collection.library.ethz.ch
- click on the button "publish"
- sign in with your "nethz" login
- complete the online form with your name, department and the title of your work
- upload and send the file
